Thailand round two

Khao San Road
It’s 3.59am here in Bangkok. There’s a tropical thunderstorm raging over the city and the strikes are so close that barely half a second passes between lightning and thunder. A quick google search reveals we’re here at the tail end of the rainy season – something I’d forgotten to check when we booked the trip. Between the throaty croaks of frogs in the courtyard and the rumbling of the guesthouse foundations, I’m not surprised I can’t sleep.
It’s Thailand round two and it’s funny what I’d forgotten in the five years since I’d last been here. Like having to break down the 1000Baht notes ($40) at 7/11s because most shops won’t have the right change. Or the ridiculously cheap, too good to be true, 10Baht (30c) tuk tuk tours around the city that take you to tailors that pay the driver a commission. Don’t take them by the way, not worth the hassle.
I ummed and ahhed a bit over where to stay in Bangkok. I mean, Bangkok is huge! Should I stay on Khao San Road in the heart of the messy loud tourist street or maybe closer to the Sky Train for ease of getting around? In the end I opted for a hostel a five-minute walk away from Khao San where it's a bit quieter – Here Hostel – check it out, I highly recommend it.
