Bangkok bound once more

Bangkok, Thailand. The backpacker mecca. The land of smiles. Exotic and hot and historic and overwhelming.

And one of my favourite countries in the world. Not that you’d know it from my blog. I’ve barely written about Thailand at all. A post here about Pai, a smattering of references in roundups, like I brushed over the entire place. It’s hard to remember now exactly how I felt when I first set foot in Thailand about five or so years ago. But I do remember that I was on a beach on Koh Tao (another destination I never wrote about) when I decided I loved to travel.

But do I love Thailand? Or am I confusing my feelings here? Do I owe it to Thailand for cultivating this love I have for travel? Will it be the same as when I last travelled through Thailand?

Or maybe it’s all same same but different.

Jack (my life partner and travel companion among other titles like chief navigator) and I will be retracing much of my route from my first backpacking trip – zigzagging north through Thailand (sometimes literally) before flying over to Myanmar – a country at the number one position on my travel wish list.

Am I excited? Hell yeah I am.
