Bali’s most stylish hostels for backpackers on a budget

My trip to Bali couldn't have come at a better time. I was feeling stressed and burnt out from work, and I was (probably) deficient in vitamin D after a gloomy winter in New Zealand. And even though I was travelling to Bali solo (in search of a little me-time) and on a budget of US$300 a week, I was determined to find myself a little Indonesian luxury.

I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't hard to find a bit of style and glamour in Bali while on a budget. An hour at a spa set me back just $12 in Ubud, or my private room with a view of the rice paddies in Munduk cost just $15 a night. Many of the hostels I booked included a swimming pool, an onsite restaurant and bar, plus some pretty stylish lounging areas. Some hostels were so gorgeous that I had some trouble deciding where I wanted to stay! Luckily for you guys, I kept all my bookmarks of the places and hostels I wanted to visit during my three weeks in Bali. I never got around to visiting Seminyak, Lovina or Canggu, but that shouldn't stop you.
My hostel in Munduk that I mentioned above, had no online listing. Sometimes when you get off the beaten path, you'll find many hostels and guesthouses are pretty much walk-in only, with limited internet access. However for your accommodation in Ubud, Kuta, or anywhere else that's popular in Bali, I recommend booking ahead - because the best hostels sell out fast.
