It is French. It is Asian.

It is young monks in saffron robes talking on cellphones.

It is a wet heavy heat, and it is the heady perfume of frangipani.

It is the smell of freshly baked baguettes and steaming spicy noodle soup.

It is fierce dragons adorning proud golden temples.

It is rickety bamboo bridges and It is bathing elephants in the Mekong river.

It is the hazy ethereal views. It is a night market of handmade delights under twinkling lights.

It is serene and wonderfully green. It is chubby cheeked children playing on quiet streets.

It is splendid cool silk.

It is the best value country I've ever travelled in.

It is the oddest city name I've come across, and one of my favourite places in the whole world.

It is Luang Prabang, Laos.

I wish I'd stayed longer.
